More New Shows On Streaming Platforms Than Cable TV

In what has been a continued trend recently, streaming continues to overtake traditional cable TV. In 2021 streaming passed Cable TV in yet another milestone: There are now more shows on streaming platforms than on Cable TV.

These details were recently released in a new summary report in Variety. In 2021 saw 922 original series on streaming platforms, an increase of 346 series (22% growth). That surpassed Cable TV which had 726 shows, a small increase over the 712 produced in 2020.

This goes along with changing consumer habits, where most Americans now get their entertainment from streaming over even broadcast TV. The impact for travelers is that the desire for connectivity for entertainment when traveling is more important than ever.
