We are doing a series of blog posts illustrating our unique and easy to use interface. Our goal is to help you get the most of your Go Travel Router and Go Travel Pro Cellular Hotspot Router product.

In this article we describe how to use Go Connect’s GoTravel app to set your Private Network Name, Private Network Password and Device Password. We will also explain the difference between them. Private WiFi networks have a lot of other benefits as well, such as being more secure.

Private WiFi Network

If you are not familiar with one of the unique things Go Connect does, is it creates a private WiFi network for you and your devices. Like your home network, this connection is designed to be private, but you may often want to allow friends, family, co-workers or other users to take advantage of the internet connectivity you get with your Go Connect device.

More than just private, Go Connect’s private WiFi network lets you have a WiFi network that never changes even as you move locations. And, unlock typical hotspots your Go Connect uses the same private WiFi network whether you are using WiFI at a RV park, hotel, campground or AirBnb or whether you are using cellular. Or even both.

Simply put your private WiFi network name and password is what your devices will connect to. Once your devices are connected you shouldn’t need to enter the password again as most modern devices remember and will automatically reconnect.

Your private WiFi network can be shared with people you know and trust. While it is intended to be “shared”, be sure to only share it with people you trust.

Private WiFi Network Name and Private WiFi Network Password

Your Private WiFi network contains two pieces. The “name”, which is what you need is the WiFi connections list on your phone, tablet, streaming media or other WiFi enabled device. The second piece is the “password’ which helps ensure only people you want can use your private WiFi network.

Setting Private WiFi Network Name and Password

To set your private WiFi network name and password you simply login to the GoTravel App and then click on the “Security” tab at the bottom of the screen.

On this screen you can see the Private WiFi Network section. The screen on the left is what it looks like by “Default”. The image on the right is what it looks like with the information filled in. While your Go Connect has no password by default for easy initial setup, for security reasons you MUST have a password. We absolutely recommend setting a unique Private WiFi network Name and Password. We do not recommend leaving it set as the default.

After you’ve entered any changes to the Private WiFi name and password, click “Save” next to Private WiFi Network name. This will update both. Your device will need to reset. The GoTravel app should automatically reconnect you to the new network. You may need to enter the new password.

Any devices that used the old network name or password will need to be updated with the new name or password.

Pro Tip: Naming Your Private WiFi Network The Same As Your Home Network.

If you name your WiFi network name and password the same as your home network you will not need to reconnect most of your devices. It also allows you to bring WiFi enabled devices that normally do not make switching between networks easy, such Sonos devices or gaming consoles.

However, we recommend NOT doing this while using your Go Connect inside of your home to avoid confusion.

Device Password

Your Device Password, or Admin Password as it is often referred to is not intended to be shared. This password should only be used by people you trust to setup your Go Connect. You will not need to use this password to connect devices or use your Go Connect internet connection. The device password is used by you to login to the GoTravel App to make changes, such as connecting to a new internet connection, viewing cellular data usage or changing passwords.

Simply put your device password is only for you to make changes, and you shouldn’t need to use it for anything other than logging into the mobile app.

Setting Your Device Password

To set your private WiFi network name and password you simply login to the GoTravel App and then click on the “Security” tab at the bottom of the screen.

On this screen you can see the Device Settings section. For security reasons this field will always be blank. You can enter a new password and click “Save Device Password’ to update it. You will be sent to the login screen.

Conclusion

The goal of the Go Connect device is to make the configuration of a private WiFi network easy. While you still need to understand a few basics, many products require you to understand a variety of security terms, configuration options and choices. With Go Connect we simplified this down to the most common and secure, focusing your choices on the key areas, which is the name and password.
