Fire TV/Fire TV Stick With Your Go Connect
To get the most out of your Fire TV when traveling with your Go Connect we recommend following these steps
Getting Started
Prior to walkthrough these steps be sure you have not yet powered up your Fire TV device or launching your Fire TV app.
Step 1 (Optional): Name Your Go Connect The Same As Your Home Network
We recommend naming your Go Gocnnect the same as your home WIFi network, including the same network name and password. Be sure the case (upper cases and lower cases) of the name and password are identical.
You can see our tips and trick page on how to change your Go Connect private network name.
If you’ve already named your Go Connect network the same as your network at home, continue.
Note: Naming your network the same as your home network while at home can cause confusion. We recommend you do this the first time you travel.
Step 2: Connect Your Go Connect To The Internet (for non-cellular versions)
If you have a Go Travel (non-cellular version) of a Go Connect, you will need to connect your Go Connect device to the internet. Simply launch the Go Travel App and join the WiFi network at your hotel, Airbnb, RV park or other location.
If your hotel, RV park, Airbnb or other location has a captive portal be sure to clear it before proceeding. What’s a captive portal? It’s that popup screen you see asking you to login or provide information such as last name and room number.
Step 3: Turn On Your Fire TV/Fire TV Stick
Once your Go Connect is fully configured (including restarting if needed) and connected to the internet, go ahead and power on your Fire TV device.
Step 4: IF You Did Not Name Your Go Connect Network The Same As Your Home Network Or This Is A New Fire TV Device
If your Fire TV device is new or you are setting it up with your Go Connect for the first time you will need to connect it to your Go Connect private WiFi network. You will only need to do this once. In the future when you move between locations with your Fire TV and Go Connect, your Fire TV should automatically connect.
To connect your Fire TV to your Go Connect for the first time:
- Click Home
- Choose Settings
- Choose Network
- Select Your Go Connect Private WiFi network
- Enter the Go Connect Private WiFi network password.
- If you do not remember, you can view your Private WiFi details – including name and password at anytime in the Go Connect app. Here is a link to an article with details.
- Click Connect
Step 5: Enjoy Your Fire TV/Fire TV Stick
Your Fire TV device will startup and find your Go Connect network. Optionally, launch the Fire TV app on your phone and enjoy your Fire TV just like at home!
Troubleshooting and Other Fire TV/Fire TV Stick Connection Scenarios Or Issues
Don’t Have A Home Network
If you are a full time RVer or other user who may not have a “home network” or have a new Fire TV device, skip Step 1 but be sure to complete Step 4. In the future, you will not need to do this again. because your Go Connect network name does not change even when your location does.
Fire TV App Not Working
If your Fire TV can connect to the internet, but your phone can’t find it the most common issue is that your phone (or the device running the Fire TV app) has gotten disconnected from your private Go Connect network. Simply reconnect and relaunch the Fire TV app. The app and the Fire TV must be on the same network.
