RV Park WiFi

WiFi at RV parks.

WiFi at RV parks.

Been a couple years since we had an RV and wondering if the wifi has gotten better at RV campgrounds.

As many I’m considering doing some months on the road as I can work from anywhere (provided good internet).

Just curious how much the RV parks have invested in internet and wifi coverage.

I have a MiFi but don’t want to bank on it for primary connectivity.

Thanks.

Answer:

RV Parks have improved, but much like hotels it’s still hit or miss. Other than checking online reviews for each park its hard to know how good the connectivity would be. Also, with the popularity of RVing going up during the Pandemic it’s very likely the experience could be varied. The RV parks are a lot more crowded and I suspect that will impact the overall WiFi capabilities.

Consider a travel router – even an inexpensive one will allow you to connect to the RV park WiFi without needing to reconfigure all of your devices. You can then use it to switch over to the MiFi hotspot if the WiFi is bad enough. Some of the better travel routers will actually help you manage this by switching automatically if it loses connectivity with the RV park WiFi. You can also get one with a SIM card that will automatically switch (though they tend to be more expensive).

I used hide.me VPN for free until I eventually decided to become a paid user. They recently upped their data limit to 10GB a month for free as well.

Getting Gaming Devices On Hotel WiFi

How to connect [a PS4] to hotel WiFi?

Posted by u/BlueOvalRacer

So I’m staying in a Travelodge for the night due to work and I brought my ps4 with me, I’m trying to connect to the Internet as I’ve bought a 24 hour pass for WiFi to do work on my laptop on. Now I know you can add a second device as I’ve done it many times but never with a PS4, when I press to connect to the WiFi it goes through everything then I go to test connection and it says failed every time. Any ideas how to do it?

Answer:

If you looking to connect your PS4 to the Hotel WiFi you are in luck. PS4s do support captive portals. However, the interface leaves a lot to be desired. Also, some hotels may struggle to display the captive portal correctly on the PS4. They are generally designed for use on laptops or phones, not gaming consoles.

In order to connect your PS4 to the hotels WiFi you’ll need to configure your wireless connection settings. This is relatively easy to do.

  1. Scroll over to the settings and press X to select the Toolbox icon.
  2. Scroll down and select Network in the options.
  3. Select the Set Up Internet Connection option in this menu.
  4. Choose the Use WiFI option on the screen.
  5. Select the Easy option
  6. Select the WiFi name of your hotel WiFi
  7. Select the Test Internet Connection button.
  8. If you get a connection failed, select the Details option.
  9. Select the Suggested Actions button.
  10. Select the View Status of the PlayStation Network Services button to access a web browser window.
  11. You should be presented with your hotels Captive Portal screen.
  12. Use your controller to scroll through each of the input screens to complete the form. Note that some hotels may require a passcode or some combination of your last name, room number or other checkin related information. It may also require more than 1 screen to complete the process.

You can optionally bring an Ethernet cable and plug it in to the hotels wired internet connection. However, wired internet connections are often not be put in newer hotels and even being removed during remodels. So we recommend not trusting this solutions.

Trouble authenticating my xbox one on my hotels wifi

Posted by u/gmdodge06

Every time I try to authenticate, it briefly brings up the sign in page but closes everything before I can click anything. I tried using a different mac address from my laptop but it still happens. Any suggestions?

Answer:

[You should try] using your laptop to share the WiFi after clearing the captive portal on your laptop[.] Most hotels don’t lock devices to the MAC address. While you can spoof the MAC address so it thinks it’s your laptop, using your laptops hotspot has a similar effect.
